Brown Paper Bag by Venus Mason Theus will have you shaking your head, talking out loud as read and on the edge of your seat.

I fell in love with Natalie, Bernadette and even the sinister Albertina Baptiste.

Natalie was ridiculed because of her dark complextion by her colored peers all throughout school. Growing up without much ,she was determined to follow her dreams. It seemed like Natalie had it all – A “well to do” young man that was madly in love with her, a growing business and a family that loved her. It was going so well until her future mother in law decided Natalie was “not good enough.”

Despite shame and a broken heart, she pressed her way through, depending only on the Lord. Natalie’s character speaks to women everywhere that’s  been left with a child and no support.

Bernadette is a widow trying to do the best she can for her son. Along comes a very married man with status, money and an offer that would change her semi-broke status to living a very comfortable, rent free  life. Although she knows it is wrong, she is tired of struggling. She, like so many women find out the hard way that nothing in this life is really free.

Brown Paper Bag by Venus Mason Theus reminds us that discrimination exists, even among our own race.

An excellent read that will have you cheering for Natalie’s happiness and Albertina’s downfall.

I can’t wait to read the next one.
